Recession Turns Trucker Shortage to Surplus
posted by Jeff Novak: Wednesday, April 01, 2009 | 0 Comments | Permalink

With the economy slowing down and disappearing credit, production and shipment of goods has slowed down. According to CNBC.com yesterday, this has created a surplus of truck drivers. Up until recently, good drivers were in a "buyer's market" and able to pick and choose the jobs and loads they took, but now that is not the case.

If you are a trucker hurt by the slowing economy, TruckerFunds.com may be able to assist with your freight factoring. By factoring your freight bills, you can get cash for your load in 24 hours instead of waiting for slow payers, that way you have cash to continue your day to day operations. Additionally, if you are looking to pick up a load or two from a loadboard, TruckerFunds.com offers free credit checks for all of our clients, simply call your Trucking Account Executive and we will let you know if its a good load.

Improving Cash Flow Tips for Truckers
posted by Jeff Novak: Wednesday, February 18, 2009 | 0 Comments | Permalink

In the Small Business Section of the New York Times.com there was an article yesterday on how small businesses can improve their cash flow. Much of the article can be beneficial to individual truckers and small fleets. The article starts by defining cash flow which is simply tracking the amount of cash coming in minus the amount of cash going out over a certain time period.

The first step is to check a potential clients credit references before they become a client. For truckers this would mean checking the credit references for a freight load you plan on delivering. This way you know after you deliver a load, you will get paid for your services in a timely manner. One of the advantages to using TruckerFunds.com to factor your freight bills is we will do bank and/or trade references for our clients free of charge, often times very quickly. That way you know before you get a load, if you will get paid.

The second bit of advice is to Bill Early. A business is not going to get paid until they are invoiced, so by billing them sooner, the faster your business will receive payment. As a trucker, this is difficult, as you are on the road all the time and freight billing and collecting can be time consuming and take you off the road. TruckerFunds.com alleviates this concern, as you invoice, simply fax or Fedex us your invoice and we will fund your account often the same daywith up to 90% of the invoice. TruckerFunds.com will then collect the rest of the invoice and pay the difference to you minus our fees.

If your business is interested in learning more about factoring and how you can get paid on your invoices faster, visit our website or call one of our knowledgable business development officers at 866-950-6669 or fill out a quick quote.

Cool Your Truck with Webasto
posted by Jeff Novak: Tuesday, October 07, 2008 | 0 Comments | Permalink

With Fall upon us and winter quickly approaching, not many truckers are thinking of ways to keep cool, but CNN recently wrote about an eco-friendly and cost efficient way of cooling your truck.

The product is called BlueCool and its by Webasto Products.  The heart of the system is a 300-pound black box that's mounted on the truck's frame rail. As the trucker drives, the system sends refrigerant through a matrix of graphite and a water/glycol mixture inside the box, creating blocks of ice. When the truck is stopped, the driver turns on an air handler that circulates coolant around the ice and blows cold air from the unit into the bunk area of the cab. The fan and circulation pump use only 3.5 to 10 amps from the truck's battery -- which means there's no danger of draining the battery, Webasto says.

Installation costs $5500 which seems like a lot, but with gas where it is, the company says the device pays for itself in less than a year, as the EPA estimates idling consumes 1 gallon of gas per hour.

The company also offers efficient heaters for the upcoming winter months.

Tips on Saving Gas Money
posted by Jeff Novak: Thursday, September 04, 2008 | 1 Comments | Permalink

The BusinessWeek Small Business Section is often a great place to get tools to help run your small business more effectively.  Recently, the topic of one article was how to reduce your gas expenses.  The article gives advice if you are only using one or two trucks or if you have an entire fleet.

The article recommends AAA.com at the site has a gas finder that after you plug in the zip code it pulls up a map of local gas stations and prices.  I prefer to use gasbuddy.com, as it is more community based (people are encouraged to join and post gas prices) which keeps the site current and up to date.  They also have a mobile site as well as a partnership with Where, which adds a widget to your GPS device so you can get gas prices while on the road.

For larger fleets, Businessweek recommends Rand McNally's Intelliroute which costs about $1500 and a $300/mo fee but it is one of the most complete route finding services.  Also mentioned in the article is Roadnet Anywhere from UPS.    There are several other tools and services, which ones do you use?
